How a Penetrating and Film-Forming Paver Sealer Works

Paver sealers are often described as either penetrating or film-forming. In practice, some coating systems are designed to perform both functions within the surface profile.

What penetration means

During application, liquid sealer moves into accessible pores, surface texture and prepared joint sand. The degree of penetration depends on porosity, moisture, previous coatings, dilution, application volume and the time available before drying.

Penetration helps establish contact below the topmost surface and contributes to joint stabilization in an all-in-one application system.

What film formation means

As water leaves the applied coating, polymer particles move closer together and develop a continuous clear film. This film contributes to color enhancement, sheen and barrier protection. Uniform drying and sufficient coalescence are essential to clarity and consistency.

How the two behaviors work together

A penetrating and film-forming system first wets the accessible surface profile and then develops a film through and above that profile. The result is not simply a layer sitting on loose sand, nor is it only an invisible treatment beneath the surface.

Why application control remains essential

  • Excess moisture can interfere with clarity and film formation.
  • A previous incompatible coating can prevent proper contact.
  • Excessive material can create uneven film build.
  • Insufficient or uneven application can leave inconsistent penetration and appearance.
  • Temperature and humidity influence working and drying time.

The PRO High-Gloss 1K approach

PRO High-Gloss 1K is designed to combine penetrating interaction with high-gloss film formation in a single-component system. Contractors receive the workflow advantage of a 1K product without mixing a separate activator.

The chemistry is only one part of the finished result. Correct diagnosis, preparation, dilution, application and final inspection determine whether the intended balance of penetration and film formation is achieved on the job.
