When a customer requests more shine, the temptation is to apply more sealer at once. That approach can slow drying, create puddles and increase the risk of cloudy or uneven film. A better high-gloss result comes from building a compatible film in controlled stages.
Start with a surface capable of producing the finish
The pavers must be clean, stable and compatible with the selected system. Existing coating buildup, moisture, poor drainage and uneven porosity can prevent a consistent high-gloss appearance.
Select the correct product
Use a sealer formulated for the desired gloss level. PRO High-Gloss 1K is the high-gloss single-component option in the PRO Series. PRO Max Gloss 2K is designed for customers seeking the maximum-gloss option. Trying to force a lower-sheen product to behave like a maximum-gloss system can lead to unnecessary film build.
Use the flood coat for its intended purpose
The flood coat should penetrate and support joint stabilization. It establishes the foundation, but it should not be treated as one uncontrolled heavy topcoat.
Build finish coats evenly
- Allow the preceding coat to become dry to the touch and visibly dry.
- Maintain the specified dilution and mix consistency.
- Apply a uniform rate while maintaining a wet edge.
- Correct spray or roller technique before adding more material.
- Inspect gloss and clarity before deciding whether another coat is needed.
Watch for warning signs
Puddling, slow milky areas, visible overlap bands and a surface that remains soft or uneven indicate that application should stop and the cause should be assessed. Adding another coat will rarely make an uncontrolled film more uniform.
Use a representative sample
Gloss depends on paver color, texture, porosity and viewing angle. A sample prepared on the actual project gives the customer a more accurate expectation than a photograph or finish name.
High gloss should look intentional and controlled. The result should enhance the pavers without making the application harder to maintain or less reliable.
