How to Choose the Right Paver Sealer: Natural, Semi-Gloss, High-Gloss or Maximum Gloss

Choosing a paver sealer starts with a straightforward question: what should the finished surface look like and how does it need to perform? Not every customer wants the same level of color enhancement or sheen, and not every surface is a good candidate for the same coating build.

Professional contractors should evaluate the pavers, the existing coating, the surrounding environment and the customer’s expectations before recommending a finish. The goal is not to sell the glossiest option. The goal is to select a system that can produce a controlled, repeatable result.

Start with the appearance the customer actually wants

Finish descriptions can mean different things to different people. A homeowner who asks for a “wet look” may be describing richer color rather than a mirror-like film. Showing sealed sample boards or completed projects is more reliable than relying on finish names alone.

  • Natural or low-sheen finishes minimize visible shine and preserve a more understated appearance.
  • Semi-gloss finishes provide noticeable color enhancement with a controlled sheen.
  • High-gloss finishes create stronger color enhancement and a more pronounced finished appearance.
  • Maximum-gloss systems are intended for customers seeking the highest available visual impact on a suitable surface.

Evaluate the surface before selecting the finish

Porosity, density, previous coating history, drainage and moisture can all influence the final appearance. Dense pavers may accept material differently than porous concrete pavers. A heavily coated surface may require stripping or another corrective step before recoating. Areas with poor drainage or excessive moisture require correction before sealer is applied.

A small test area helps confirm color enhancement, gloss, absorption and compatibility under actual jobsite conditions. It also gives the customer a realistic preview.

Match the Seal ’n Lock system to the project

The PRO Series provides distinct finish options instead of forcing one sealer onto every project: PRO Natural 1K for a natural, low-sheen appearance; PRO Semi-Gloss 1K for controlled shine and color enhancement; PRO High-Gloss 1K for a premium high-gloss finish without a separate activator; and PRO Max Gloss 2K when maximum gloss is the objective.

Do not overlook preparation and application control

Even the correct product cannot compensate for incorrect diagnosis or poor preparation. Reliable results come from the complete process: correct diagnosis, correct preparation, controlled material application, QC-tested product and final inspection.

Contractors should confirm surface temperature, moisture, coating compatibility, joint-sand condition and dilution before beginning. Apply controlled, uniform coats and allow each coat to reach the required drying stage before recoating.

The best finish is the one that fits the job

A professional recommendation connects the customer’s desired appearance with the condition of the surface and the realities of the application. That approach makes the project easier to explain, faster to plan, cleaner to execute and more reliable to deliver.
